Privacy at Zurf
Zurf ("we," "our," "the Zurf service") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information Zurf collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

What Zurf is
Zurf is a personal AI memory service. It lets you save private content (notes, links, images, and documents) and later find it again, including through Ask, a feature that answers your questions grounded in the content you've saved. Zurf is not a public social network, and it is not a general-purpose chatbot: Ask only answers from your own saved content.
Information you provide
- Email address, used to sign in and authenticate your account.
- Memories you save: text notes, links, images, and PDFs.
- Corrections or overrides you make to how Zurf has interpreted a memory.
- Ask queries: the questions you ask about your saved content.
Information Zurf creates while providing the service
- AI-generated interpretations and summaries of the content you save, so it can be understood and searched.
- Extracted text and metadata from images and documents (for example, through optical character recognition).
- Search representations (embeddings) of your content, used to power search and Ask.
- Ask answers and Ask history, generated in response to your queries.
- Operational account identifiers needed to run your account and secure access to it.
What Zurf does not currently do
- We do not use advertising identifiers or build advertising profiles.
- We do not engage in cross-app or cross-website tracking.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not collect your device location.
- We do not collect your contacts.
- We do not collect payment information; Zurf does not currently process payments.
- We do not use third-party analytics software in the app.
- We do not use third-party crash-reporting software in the app.
How your data is used
Your data is used to:
- authenticate your account and keep it secure,
- save and organize your memories,
- process and understand what you save (including OCR and AI-generated interpretation),
- power search and retrieval of your saved content,
- answer your Ask queries, grounded in your own saved memories,
- maintain the security and reliability of the service,
- provide the account export and account deletion features described below.
Zurf does not use your saved content to train its own AI models.
AI processing
To provide Zurf's core functionality, the content you save may be processed by AI and OCR services, for example, to generate a summary of a note, extract text from an image, or answer an Ask query. This processing is what makes your content understandable and searchable.
Zurf does not use your saved content to train its own AI models. Where saved content is processed by underlying AI or OCR service providers to deliver Zurf's functionality to you, that processing is governed by those providers' own data-handling terms; we encourage you to review a provider's terms directly if you want detail on how it handles data during processing.
Data security
Zurf uses reasonable technical safeguards to protect your data, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), authenticated access controls, and access restrictions that keep your account's data private to you. No online service can guarantee perfect security, and we cannot promise that Zurf is 100% free of risk, but we work to keep your data protected and private by default.
Retention
- Active data: your memories, Ask history, and account data are retained for as long as your account exists.
- Backups: Zurf maintains routine automated backups of its production database for reliability, currently retained for up to 7 days. If your account is deleted, copies of your data may remain in these backups for a limited time until they age out and are automatically replaced by newer backups; deleted data is not immediately purged from every backup the moment you delete your account.
- Storage versioning: uploaded files are stored in a versioned storage system as part of our reliability practices. This is intended for operational recovery, not to give you continued access to a file after you delete it.
- Deletion record: after you delete your account, Zurf retains a minimal internal record that an account existed and was deleted. This is kept to prevent misuse of the deletion process (for example, to stop identity reprovisioning abuse) and does not include your memories, files, or Ask history.
- Operational logs: system logs used for monitoring and troubleshooting are currently retained for 30 days.
Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the app. Deleting your account removes:
- your memories,
- your uploaded files,
- your Ask history,
- your account and profile data,
- your authentication identity (you will no longer be able to sign in with that account).
As explained above under Retention, temporary backup copies may persist for a limited time after deletion until they expire in the normal course of our backup schedule.
Account export
You can export your data at any time using "Export my data" on the Account screen. The export contains your account details, your memories (including AI-generated interpretations and any corrections you made), file metadata (such as filename, type, and size) for anything you've uploaded, and your Ask history. The export does not embed the original binary contents of uploaded images or PDFs; it describes them, but does not include the file bytes themselves.
Children
Zurf is not directed to children below the minimum age at which a person is permitted to use the service independently in their jurisdiction.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Zurf evolves. If we make material changes, we will make a reasonable effort to notify you, such as through the app or by email.
